About us

History Observera was founded in 1995 by a group of engineers, scientists and business professionals working in the remote sensing industry. Our experience came from many years of developing innovative solutions for sensitive military and national security imaging problems. Observera was founded in anticipation of the availability of commercial high resolution imaging systems, similar to those used by the military, then planned for launch. We have continually strived to bridge the gap between the government and commercial remote sensing communities by bringing commercial technologies into government use and government technologies into commercial use.

Observera won its first competitive contract in 1996 to develop video photogrammetry software for the US Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin AFB. The next year, we became a VAR for ERMapper and in 1998 introduced Terrain Blocks - accurate physical 3D models of terrain using modern CAD/CAM technology. In 1999 we introduced two additional products - the Defense Format Pack and RAVEN View. In 2003, we were awarded a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) contract to develop a standardized geologic database for a major government agency. In 2004 we became a member company with the incipient United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF). Our success continued in 2004 as the company needed to expand into a larger facility. Plans were put in place and ground was soon broken on our own facility in Chantilly, VA that we moved into on May 26, 2005. Soon after this, we completed a successful Phase II SBIR project with the US Army that resulted in our ALLEGRO technology. Continuing a long relationship with Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, we signed an exclusive license for the Genie Pro image-information extraction technology. This license was signed in late 2007.

Observera continues to develop innovative concepts under government and commercial contracts. Whenever possible, we look to commercialize ideas in order to satisfy needs outside the government and bring savings to our government customers by eliminating the high maintenance costs associated with government-maintained products.
